· The Liberal Party is an Australian Political Party, founded in 1944, which replaced the United Australia Party. It competes with the centre left Australian Labor Party for political office.
· Sir Robert Menzies was the founder of the Liberal Party and the longest serving member.
· The Liberal federally runs in a coalition with the National Party.
· In federal politics the liberal party has been in politics since the Howard government lost having previously held power since 1996.
· Since 2009 the federal leader of the party has been Tony Abbott with Julie Bishop as Deputy.
· The Liberal Party holds 44 out of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 32 out of the 76 seats in the Senate. Its official colour is blue.

Philosophies:
· In the 1980s John Howard believed in a Future Directions policy. This promoted a return to the safe and secure 1950’s Australia, with an image of a married couple with two kids and a house with a white picket fence.
